Welcome!
This blog post marks the launch of our three-year SSHRC-funded project, which inquires about the intersections between research-creation—a term mostly used in academic contexts, where research happens through actively making, doing, and reflecting upon your practice—and the creativity that happens “outside” of university spaces. After all, there is research and discovery involved in all creative practices, even if we sometimes do not address it as such.
How do these spheres intersect? Is there a possibility for bridging these environments? What can we learn when academic researchers and artists share knowledge? What might happen when creative methodologies, from decolonizing research traditions to engaging with artificial intelligence, move fluidly between disciplines, sectors, and communities? These are just a few of the many questions we will be asking in the next three years.
